Scott Reis is originally from Monroe, Louisiana. His professional career began in Baton Rouge with the Louisiana Legislative Council while a student at LSU where he represented the University in the 1970 and the 1971 North American Collegiate Bridge Championships. Scott graduated LSU Law School in 1972 and immediately entered public service, first as Monroe City Prosecutor, followed by the Louisiana Constitutional Convention, then as Plaquemines Parish Public Defender. During these criminal defense years in South Louisiana, Scott developed a robust personal injury practice with a maritime focus and also co-founded the Belle Chase Rotary. In the mid-seventies, he formed the Reis, Stanhope, McKay and Smith Law Firm in New Orleans.
A decade later Scott relocated his private law practice to Baton Rouge where he served as Secretary of State Executive Counsel and Bond Commission Representative. In 1990 he and his wife, Rebecca Cunard, formed the Cunard Reis Law Firm specializing in personal injury and class action litigation. Ten years later, Scott retired from law to focus on healthcare and other investments including Mandina’s Restaurants and Churchills Wine & Cigar Bar.
The success of Diagnostic Management Affiliates in New Orleans and Bayou Medical Management in Baton Rouge enabled Scott to enter the Atlanta healthcare market as founder and owner of Atlanta Medical Management (AMM), a PPO designed to provide access to healthcare for underinsured trauma victims. During the five years that followed, AMM provided over fifty million dollars in medical benefits to accident victims. Following AMM’s sale to a venture capital group, Scott refocused initially on healthcare in Louisiana as co-founder of Medport LA in New Orleans and currently as co-owner and CFO of Romeo Papa Boats, a Louisiana based company that provides wide-ranging maritime services including local and national security solutions.
Law, healthcare and business overlapped fifty years. Scott’s next fifty will focus on friends, family and travel.
